2025 Fantasy Outlook
After breaking into the majors as a reliever, Soriano pitched primarily out of the Angels' rotation last season, making 20 starts in 22 total appearances. He didn't lose anything in terms of velocity, but the strikeout dominance was predictably down as he moved back to a starting role. Arm fatigue put Soriano on the shelf in mid-August and the Angels shut him down for the year shortly thereafter, likely an easy call given where they were in the standings. An MRI in September came back clean, presumably setting him up for a normal offseason. Soriano relied more heavily on his sinker last season, which led to an increase in groundball rate to almost 60 percent. The 26-year-old also has a knuckle curve to get whiffs, so the potential is there for him to add back to his K rate and ascend to legitimate mid-rotation status. Read Past Outlooks
MRI returns clean
Soriano had an MRI after experiencing discomfort in his pitching elbow and shoulder, and the results came back clean, per MLB.com.
ANALYSIS
Soriano's placement on the injured list in mid-August was said to be due to right arm fatigue, and the Angels organization has indicated that the hurler isn't dealing with a serious injury. The clean results of the MRI seem to back that up, though the right-hander's transfer to the 60-day IL on Sept. 7 officially ended his 2024 season. Unless he has a setback, Soriano should be ready for spring training in 2025.

Past Fantasy Outlooks
2024
2021
Soriano emerged as a key piece of the Angels' bullpen after his first big league promotion last June. The 25-year-old right-hander posted a solid 3.64 ERA, 1.33 WHIP and 56:23 K:BB over 42 innings. The Dominican native actually finished second on the team with 15 holds despite appearing in just 38 games. Soriano features four pitches, headlined by a curveball that he threw 41 percent of the time with great success. His sinker and fastball clocked in between 96 and 99 miles per hour, while his slider generated the 2nd-highest whiff rate in the league (62.5 percent) for that pitch type despite not throwing it often. With a 30 percent strikeout rate and 50-plus percent groundball rate, there's a lot to like in Soriano's profile, but he'll need to work on his control and limit his free passes (12.4 percent walk rate) to remain in the high-leverage mix.

Latest Fantasy Rumors
Possible trade piece
Soriano could be traded by the Angels this summer, which Jeff Passan of ESPN.com believes would be a "good baseball decision."
ANALYSIS
Soriano showcased his potential as a rookie last season with a 3.64 ERA and 12.0 K/9 in 38 appearances out of the bullpen, and his transition to the rotation in 2024 has so far been a resounding success. The 25-year-old is averaging 98.3 mph on his fastball -- up from 97.7 mph in 2023 -- and has a 3.86 ERA, 1.22 WHIP and 54:25 K:BB over 58.2 innings this year. He won't be arbitration eligible until 2026, so it will take a significant trade package in order for the Halos to consider parting with the right-hander.
