2025 Fantasy Outlook
Foley's secondary offerings have been a work in progress, but he finally achieved success with his slider in 2024. The right-hander held opposing hitters to a mere .113 average and .145 slugging percentage that were among the best marks in the league for that pitch type. As expected, his usage of the slider increased by 14.1 percentage points - to 31.5 percent overall. Foley still favored his 97 mph sinker (54.7 percent usage), but it was crushed by opposing hitters (.299 AVG, 48.6 percent hard-hit). The 29-year-old still led Detroit with a career-high 28 saves and a 62.2% team save share, but he lost his grasp on closing duties for an extended period near mid-season and during the playoffs. Oddly, Foley only pitched once out of seven postseason contests, casting some doubt on his prospects for opening 2025 as the Tigers' closer. A shared role and more conservative save projection - perhaps 15-to-20 for Foley - might be a more realistic outcome. Read Past Outlooks

ANALYSIS
Tyler Holton was pitching well and possibly could have been asked to retire one more batter with a three-run lead, but the Tigers didn't mess around with a chance to secure an AL Wild Card spot. Foley did his part to kick-start the celebration by securing his 28th save of the season and seventh in the last two weeks. The righty has been a big piece of his team's surprise success this year, pitching to a 3.15 ERA and 1.18 WHIP across 60 innings. Foley will clearly have a high-leverage role in the postseason now as well.

Past Fantasy Outlooks
2024
2023
Foley relied on his sinker more than ever in 2023 (69.3% pitch usage) after adding a tick of velocity (97.2 mph average) on the pitch. 45 of Foley's 55 total strikeouts came via his sinker, which also yielded a 57.1% groundball percentage that was 14th-highest among qualified relievers. The 28-year-old also set career-best marks in games played (70), innings (69.0), WHIP (1.16) and holds (28) while leading Tigers relievers with a 2.82 WPA. Foley briefly took over closing duties in August and finished the year with 7 saves despite lacking whiffs (17.9%) and strikeouts (19.9%). The right-hander has been one of Detroit's most reliable relief pitchers over the past two seasons and should reprise his high-leverage role again in 2024. Even more save chances could be in his future, especially if Alex Lange's control issues persist.

Latest Fantasy Rumors
Drawing trade interest
Mark Feinsand of MLB.com reports the Tigers have received "significant interest" for Foley on the trade market.
ANALYSIS
The right-hander had a 3.88 ERA as a middle-relief option for Detroit last year, and he's excelled in a setup role this season with a 2.03 ERA, 1.06 WHIP and 39:10 K:BB over 44.1 innings. Foley isn't eligible for arbitration until 2025, so the Tigers aren't likely to move him without a strong offer.
