2025 Fantasy Outlook
The left-hander joined the Brewers on a minor-league deal in November of 2023 and was a breakout piece of the bullpen, and he also made a few starts as an opener. Koenig had a 9-4 record in 55 appearances with a 2.47 ERA, 1.24 WHIP and 63:23 K:BB across 62 innings, and he tallied one save and 10 holds. He averaged 95.1 mph on his fastball, which is up nearly six mph from his first big-league action with Oakland in 2022. The wins aren't sustainable given his role, but he could see more high-leverage work in 2025, especially if Milwaukee ships off closer Devin Williams. Read Past Outlooks
Opening Saturday
Koenig will serve as the Brewers' opening pitcher for Saturday's game against the Mets, Todd Rosiak of the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel reports.
ANALYSIS
Koenig worked as an opener frequently during the first half of the season, though Saturday will be the first time he's done so since returning from the injured list in July. The 30-year-old southpaw owns a 3.60 ERA and 1.30 WHIP across 10 innings since the start of September, and he'll likely only remain in the game for an inning or two before turning things over to Tobias Myers, who is expected to pitch in bulk relief.
