2024 Fantasy Outlook
Amaya made his big-league debut last summer but garnered just nine plate appearances in four games. He slashed .252/.344/.406 with 15 home runs and six steals in 128 games at Triple-A, marking the third straight year with double-digit long balls after previously showing much less pop. The 25-year-old has no guarantees but is likely to receive another look with the Marlins in 2024, especially since utility man Jon Berti represents the only real established roadblock at shortstop. Fading into platoon role
Amaya is out of the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Angels.
ANALYSIS
After making 14 starts at shortstop in a 16-game stretch from Aug. 30 through Monday, Amaya now finds himself on the bench for the second day in a row. He's sat in each of the White Sox's last three matchups with right-handed pitchers, as Amaya looks to have moved into the short side of a platoon at shortstop with the lefty-hitting Nicky Lopez. Since joining the White Sox on Aug. 27 after being claimed off waivers from the Astros, Amaya is slashing .244/.311/.268.

2023 Fantasy Outlook
For the first time as a pro, Amaya flashed a bit of power at Double-A in 2021, swatting 12 homers across 476 plate appearances. It was encouraging to see him follow that up with 17 long balls over 567 plate appearances between Double-A and Triple-A last season, boosting his big-league outlook considerably. The 24-year-old is already more than capable with the glove, as he possesses quick hands and a strong, accurate arm that make him arguably the best defensive infield prospect in the system. Despite the recent gains, it's unlikely that Amaya will ever be more than an average power hitter, and he isn't projected to be a big base stealer in the majors. He could debut in 2023, and his chance to evolve long-term into an everyday player rather than be relegated to a utility role will likely hinge on how well he can sustain the power gains without too heavily sacrificing the consistent-contact approach that kept him afloat during his early seasons in the minors.

Latest Fantasy Rumors
Chance to be claimed by Detroit?
Evan Woodbery of MLive.com suggests the Tigers could be interested in placing a waiver claim on Amaya.
ANALYSIS
The 25-year-old was designated for assignment by the Marlins on Tuesday after he failed to make the club's Opening Day roster during spring training. Amaya spent most of last season at the Triple-A level and had a .252/.344/.406 slash line with 15 homers and six steals in 128 games, though he also had a brief look in the big leagues. The shortstop can also be optioned to the minors, which could spur more interest on waivers, particularly for teams like Detroit that have an open spot on the 40-man roster.
