2024 Fantasy Outlook
There have been some incredible peaks and valleys in Suwinski's young career. He's endured not one but two 0-for-29 stretches in his two seasons, the first earning him a trip back to the minors in 2022. The Pirates took a different approach to Suwinski's prolonged slump in 2023, instead giving him a few days off to work with his hitting coaches, which worked as Suwinski finished strong in September. Through it all he led Pittsburgh in home runs with 26, in turn becoming the fastest player in franchise history to reach 40 career homers. Suwinski improved against left-handed pitching in his sophomore season, though a .200/.295/.300 line is still hardly anything to write home about. He can also run as evidenced by his 81st percentile sprint speed and 13 steals in 15 attempts last season, so the power/speed potential is here if you can stomach the ups and downs and occasional days off against southpaws. ANALYSIS
After being called up to the majors June 4, Suwinski slashed .193/.261/.358 with five home runs, 13 RBI and a 32.5 percent strikeout rate across 118 plate appearances. The 26-year-old will likely need to show an improve plate approach at Triple-A before he gets another look from the Pirates.

2023 Fantasy Outlook
The Pirates are notorious for slowly promoting their prospects, so it was a surprise when Suwinski got the call to Pittsburgh directly from Double-A Altoona to make his major-league debut on April 26, 2022. It was even more surprising when he stuck in Pittsburgh and ultimately took over a regular role as a corner outfielder. He earned the opportunity, as through his first 162 plate appearances he smacked 14 home runs while maintaining a .345 wOBA and 123 wRC+. Less positive was his 30.2 percent strikeout rate in that span, also a primary factor in his tailspin and ultimate demotion to Triple-A Indianapolis for much of July and August. Suwinski managed to get back on track in the final month of the season at the big-league level and now appears to have a clear path to regular playing time in a corner outfield spot for the Pirates heading into 2023. His primary attribute will be his power, and his 86th percentile barrel rate and 85th percentile max exit velocity illustrate that he has plenty of it. Unless the Pirates drastically upgrade their lineup - something that looks unlikely - he'll also have a spot in the middle of the order, creating the path to potential counting stat upside. The primary problem for Suwinski is his aforementioned strikeout rate, which was high as he climbed through both the Padres and Pirates organizations and remained elevated in his first taste in the majors. The same can be said of his infield flyball rate, factors which will combine to sink his batting average potential in the short term. The Pirates will give Suwinski every chance to figure it out in the long term, but 2023 will likely be about balancing his power potential with the likelihood of a subpar batting average.

Rare combination
Suwinski ranks in the top 10 percentile among all hitters for slugging percentage and chase rate this season. He's blasted 15 home runs while swinging at just 16.5 percent of pitches that land outside the strike zone.
ANALYSIS
Suwinski's chase rate is the fourth best in MLB. The 24-year-old does strike out in nearly a third of his plate appearances, but he's punishing breaking balls to the tune of a .326/.261/.717 slash line. His patience combined with his prowess for hitting offspeed has generated excellent production and appears sustainable.
