The Marlins jettisoned Diaz from their 40-man roster prior to Opening Day last season and eventually dealt him to the Giants in late April. Diaz never left the minors even though he batted .275/.377/.574 with 23 home runs and seven stolen bases over 83 games with Triple-A Sacramento, but the Giants did see enough in his performance to add him to the 40-man roster over the winter. Diaz will compete for an Opening Day roster spot and looms as an interesting alternative at second base if Thairo Estrada regresses. He does have an option left, though, and Diaz's abysmal track record in the majors suggests we probably shouldn't read too much into what he did in his fourth stint at Triple-A.

Latest Fantasy Rumors
August debut possible
Diaz debuting for the Marlins in August "seems possible," according to Craig Mish of FNTSY Sports Radio.
ANALYSIS
A September callup is expected, but it sounds like we could see Diaz sooner than that if the Marlins are able to trade Starlin Castro, or if they simply move on from Castro. The latter is probably inevitable, as Castro grades out as the worst full-time position player in the game by some metrics and likely has little value on the trade market. Diaz, 23, has been 28 percent better than league average in the Pacific Coast League this year (.289/.386/.560, 20 homers, four steals). He has shaved his strikeout rate to a respectable 22.2 percent, down from 29 percent at the Triple-A level in 2018. When Diaz does eventually get the call, he will have appeal right away in a wide variety of formats.
