Hits first homer this season
Perez went 1-for-5 with a home run in Sunday's game with Single-A Carolina.
ANALYSIS
Perez had a tough time at the Single-A level last season, and he has not done much early this year, tallying just three hits over 29 at-bats. However, all three of those have went for extra bases, and some struggles can be expected for a player who is nearly two years younger than league average. Perez is one of the better prospects in the Brewers' system, so don't be surprised if he takes off at some point.

A year ago, Perez was one of the most highly-regarded players from the 2019 international signing class, seen as an advanced hitter with plus speed and a plus arm. Since then, the scouting report has trended in the wrong direction. His power is actually ahead of schedule -- his exit velocities are elite for a teenager and he gets to his power with rare ease for a player his age and size (generously listed at 5-foot-11). Unfortunately, his hit tool, which was once seen as perhaps his best future skill, is now a big question mark. He struck out too much in complex ball (25.8 K%) and at Low-A (36.8 K%) and his 4.5 BB% across the two levels was also subpar. Additionally, his plus speed and plus arm are no more, with him now profiling best in left field. Perez doesn't turn 19 until April, so if he can show an improved approach in a return to Low-A, his stock will rebound. However, there's also room for him to continue to slip down prospect rankings.
