Kilome signed a minor-league contract with the Nationals on Monday.
ANALYSIS
Kilome made 21 appearances (five starts) for Triple-A Syracuse last year and posted a 3.91 ERA and 1.37 WHIP in 46 innings. He'll presumably report to Triple-A Rochester and is unlikely to be a significant major-league contributor for the Nationals this year.

We keep waiting for Kilome to put his impressive physical tools together and start looking the part of a No. 2 starter, but the closer he gets to the majors, the less impressive he appears. The 22-year-old righty notched a 3.54 FIP at High-A, but his 11.2 K-BB% was mediocre, given his stuff. He was even less overpowering at Double-A, where his 4.1 K-BB% ranked in the bottom 15 percent of Eastern League pitchers. Kilome works with a heavy, mid-90s fastball and has a curveball that will flash plus. Unfortunately, at 6-foot-6, there are a lot of moving parts with his delivery and his command has not improved over the past couple seasons. If his command improves and his slider or changeup were to emerge as a quality third pitch, he could be a No. 3 or No. 4 starter. The more likely outcome is that he moves to the bullpen in a year or two, as he is already on the 40-man roster. He would profile as an eighth or ninth-inning arm in relief.
Kilome got off to an awful start at Low-A Lakewood last season as he struggled through mechanical issues. The Phillies kept him out of games for a few weeks in April as they worked to get his delivery corrected before allowing him back onto the mound in May. Kilome started to dominate and showed signs of why he is considered one of the highest upside arms in the minors. Throwing out his 15.83 ERA and 7:10 K:BB in 9.2 April innings, he had a 2.76 ERA with a 123:40 K:BB in 104.1 innings over the remainder of the season. The walks are still a concern, but he has time to improve there. Kilome is so intriguing because he regularly hits the mid-90s with his fastball and his curveball is a potential plus pitch. The question is whether he will be able to develop a consistent third offering. If he does, he has front of the rotation upside. If he doesn't, he's a late inning reliever and potential closer.
The hype is building around Kilome, a 6-foot-6 righty that the Phillies signed out of the Dominican Republic in 2013. His fastball velocity jumped up into the mid-90s last year and there could be some room for additional growth as his frame fills out. Kilome's numbers at short season Low-A Williamsport last season do not jump off the page, but his prospect status is based more on projection than results at this point in his career. He still has work to do on commanding his fastball and improving his secondary pitches. Kilome will likely be assigned to Low-A Lakewood at the start of the 2016 season, and he could move quickly through the minors if things start to click for him on the mound.

Could head overseas
PFree Agent
November 20, 2024
Kilome is receiving interest from teams in Nippon Professional Baseball, reports Jon Morosi of MLB Network.
ANALYSIS
The right-hander was out of affiliated baseball in 2024 and made just five appearances in the Mexican League, where he allowed six earned runs with a 1:4 K:BB. Kilome made his MLB debut for the Mets in 2020 with four appearances but has been unable to return to the big leagues. Given his underwhelming minor-league numbers, the 29-year-old would likely need a couple strong seasons overseas to have a chance of garnering a notable MLB contract.
