2025 Fantasy Outlook
Injuries were a problem again for Jimenez in 2024, as he made two trips to the injured list during the first half due to adductor and hamstring issues. Even more worrisome was that the 28-year-old didn't hit at all when on the field, easily setting career lows with a .626 OPS, 78 wRC+ and just six home runs in 98 games between the White Sox and Orioles. Jimenez did still make quality contact, ranking in the 90th percentile both in hard-hit rate and average exit velocity. Unfortunately, much of that contact was again on the ground, with Jimenez's 56.1 percent ground ball rate representing the fifth-highest mark in baseball among players with at least 300 plate appearances. The free agent is still young enough that a rebound is possible, but since 2021 he's averaging just 89 games and 12.5 homers per season. Read Past Outlooks
O's decline option
The Orioles declined Jimenez's $16.5 million club option for 2025 on Saturday, Andy Kostka of TheBaltimoreBanner.com reports.
ANALYSIS
This past season was Jimenez's worst at the plate in his six-year career, as he slashed just .238/.289/.336 over 324 plate appearances between the White Sox and Orioles. Because of his poor performance, it makes sense that Baltimore would rather pay the 27-year-old's $3 million buyout than give him $16.5 million to join the team's already-crowded lineup.

Jimenez missed three weeks in May due to an appendectomy but otherwise stayed mostly healthy in 2023, and his 120 games played is the most since his rookie campaign. Sitting out 42 games is still significant but marks a major improvement from the previous two years, when he appeared in a combined 139 contests. He still missed some time here and there with calf and groin issues, and his .272/.317/.441 slash line was a notable drop from his .295/.358/.500 line in 2022. Jimenez totaled 18 homers, 64 RBI and 50 runs last season, while his .169 ISO was the worst mark of his MLB career. Potential versus durability continues to be the theme for Jimenez, with durability concerns unfortunately winning out to this point. That seems unlikely to change in 2024, though he would be an incredible value for fantasy managers on the off chance he's finally able to play a full season.

Latest Fantasy Rumors
Bound for free agency
The Orioles are expected to decline Jimenez's $16.5 million club option for 2025, reports Roch Kubatko of MASNSports.com.
ANALYSIS
The move is essentially a formality at this point given that Baltimore optioned him to Triple-A Norfolk in late September. Jimenez was acquired by the Orioles from the White Sox at the trade deadline and had a .238/.289/.336 slash line with six homers in 98 regular-season games. The 27-year-old entered the 2024 campaign with an .811 OPS through five MLB seasons, but his inability to stay healthy plus the poor production this year will leave him with a limited market in free agency.
