2025 Projections
2025 Fantasy Outlook
Leonard is starting to knock on the door of the majors, though where he would play remains an open question, and he's now looking for a new home in 2025 after being cut loose by Detroit. He's primarily worked at shortstop the past few seasons in the minors while also mixing in at second base, third base and in the outfield. Leonard held his own at the Triple-A level last season as a 23-year-old, sporting a .781 OPS across 67 games, and he could give a new team a versatile player with some juice in his bat. It's a little surprising that the Tigers decided to move on already, though they have a number of other youngsters in their pipeline pushing for playing time. Leonard's 2025 outlook depends on where he lands and what kind of opportunity presents itself. Read Past Outlooks
Returns to Detroit as NRI
The Tigers re-signed Leonard to a minor-league contract Thursday that includes an invitation to spring training, Evan Petzold of the Detroit Free Press reports.
ANALYSIS
Leonard was non-tendered last month but is now back in the Detroit organization as a non-roster invitee. The 24-year-old slashed .263/.326/.455 with 10 home runs during an injury-shortened 2024 campaign for Triple-A Toledo and is likely headed back there to start 2025.

2024 Fantasy Outlook
Acquired from the Dodgers in August in exchange for cash, Leonard looked pretty good with his new organization. The 23-year-old reported to Triple-A Toledo and posted a .302/.374/.530 slash line with eight home runs across 40 games for the Mud Hens. Prior to the trade, Leonard popped 12 home runs in 92 games with Double-A Tulsa. The youngster had 15 long balls a season earlier at the High-A level, which gives him some upside as a player who has primarily played in the middle infield. Last year, Leonard made 107 starts at shortstop across his two stops while also making 13 appearances in the outfield. Javier Baez is currently the starting shortstop in Detroit, though the veteran has quickly worn out his welcome due to a few poor seasons after signing a large contract. Baez is clearly not the long-term answer up the middle, and Leonard could be in the mix to replace him when the time comes. The latter will likely start 2024 back at Triple-A and look to put together a strong full season at the level, though an MLB promotion at some point isn't out of the question.

In mix for promotion
Evan Woodbery of MLive.com labeled Leonard an "intriguing choice" to be called up by the Tigers when MLB rosters expand to 28 players Sunday.
ANALYSIS
The 23-year-old has yet to make his MLB debut, and the stretch run could be a good opportunity for him to receive his first taste of the big leagues. Leonard has an underwhelming .694 OPS in 46 games at Triple-A Toledo this season, though he's carried a hot bat of late with an .859 OPS in his past 11 contests.
