Hall showed flashes as a 26-year-old rookie in 2022, posting a 121 wRC+ in 42 games, so when Rhys Hoskins suffered a season-ended ACL tear in March, an opportunity was available for Hall to establish himself as a major-league regular. His season statistics demonstrate emphatically that he failed to do so, as he hit .167/.196/.241 while appearing in just 18 games. Those who took note of the horrible plate discipline (3.5% walk rate, 31.0% strikeout rate) that accompanied his rookie numbers won't have been too surprised, however, though that wasn't the entire reason he failed to get off the ground in 2023. He earned an Opening Day starting role despite those plate discipline worries, and it wasn't a slump but rather a sprained thumb suffered in early April which cut his starting job short. By the time he recovered from surgery, Bryce Harper had made his miraculous return. Hall did himself no favors with a three-week cameo in July, striking out over 40% of the time, and he never got another chance.
