Recent RotoWire Articles Featuring Conner Capel See More
The potent Atlanta Braves lineup has underperformed thus far in May, but with seven games this week Todd Zola projects them to break out in his Weekly Hitter Rankings.
Erik Siegrist digs into the available talent in the AL and think Billy McKinney might not be a flash in the pan for the Yankees.
2023 Fantasy Outlook
St. Louis called up Capel for his major league debut on late June. He played sparingly, slashing .176/.211/.353 in just 17 plate appearances before being sent back to Triple-A Memphis. The Cardinals released Capel in early September, then he was claimed by Oakland. Capel played a lot down the stretch, impressing with a .371/.425/.600 line, albeit fueled with a .423 BABIP and 22.2% HR/FB rate. Capel was clearly overachieving, but the hot finish should earn him an opportunity at regular playing time this season. He's shown some power and speed in the minors, but he's generally been old for the level. The park and the lineup will do him no favors, but it could be worth taking a late flyer, so long as there is an available exit strategy in case Capel struggles.
