Since he made his debut as a 24-year-old in 2018, Stewart has appeared in 157 games at the major-league level. Once billed as a strong prospect within the Tigers' organization, Stewart was expected to be a polished offensive player capable of making an immediate impact. However, he's posted subpar surface stats through 587 plate appearances. Those results have largely been backed by an average at best 7.9%-barrel rate and 32.5% hard hit rate. Even worse, he's posted a 19.7 degree launch angle (0.6 GB/FB) without the benefit of power production while simultaneously limiting him to a .241 expected batting average. Now 27 years old, 2021 appears to be a make or break season for Stewart. The Tigers have a crop of young prospects who have either recently debuted or are close to the major leagues, meaning they will likely look to start optimizing their roster to make the most of their competitive window.

Resurfacing soon
Stewart is expected to be recalled in the near future, Chris McCosky of The Detroit News reports.
ANALYSIS
The 25-year-old was optioned to Triple-A Toledo recently despite being activated from the injured list. Stewart has slashed .239/.321/.393 in his first extended big-league campaign (327 plate appearances) but hasn't shown much pop, hitting just seven homers and driving in 33 runs. He's a candidate to take at-bats on the top side of platoon work against righty pitchers but probably is best left to deeper fantasy games.
