Chris Beck

Beck began transitioning from being a full-time starter to more of a swingman role over the course of 2016, and the results were less than impressive. Most of his time was spent at Triple-A Charlotte, where he was only able to muster a mediocre 4.21 ERA and 1.54 WHIP. Things didn't get better during brief stints with the big league club, as his ERA spiked up to 6.39 due to a retched 6.0 BB/9 and 1.0 HR/9. The right-hander was mauled by left-handed hitters to the tune of a .385 BAA while he proceeded to walk more lefties than he struck out. Beck is still only 26 years old and his numbers in the minors (prior to this season) showed promise, so there's still some hope that he rights the ship. He could even vie for an Opening Day roster spot, but Beck will likely be limited to the middle innings for the foreseeable future.
