Rest-of-Season Projections
Back with Rockies as NRI
Adams signed a minor-league contract with the Rockies on Monday that includes an invitation to spring training, Jon Heyman of the New York Post reports.
ANALYSIS
Heyman says Adams will earn a salary of $740,000 if in the big leagues. The 29-year-old missed the 2022 season following Tommy John surgery and came back in 2023 to post a 3.86 ERA and 21:10 K:BB over 32.2 innings at Triple-A Albuquerque in the Rockies organization. He will compete for a gig in the Rockies bullpen but will probably begin 2024 back at Albuquerque.

Past Fantasy Outlooks
2018
2017
It was a little surprising when Adams, who compiled a 2.45 ERA and 1.08 WHIP across 150.1 innings at Double-A and Triple-A, was not summoned late last season for an audition in the big-league rotation. However, despite having success against lefties in the minors (.198 AVG against at Triple-A), there were reasons to think he may have been pummeled by opposite-handed hitters in the big leagues. He has a plus fastball and plus slider, which allows him to keep righties in check, but he lacks a quality third pitch to neutralize left-handed hitters. Indeed, he struck out just 36 lefties in 51.1 innings at Triple-A, compared to 67 righties in 64 innings. Clearly his changeup and curveball still need some refining, but with above-average control, he still projects as a No. 3 or No. 4 starter in time. Given his potential splits, he could make his big-league debut in the bullpen, but if he makes the necessary adjustments at Triple-A, he could be pitching in the big-league rotation in the first half.
