2025 Projections
Set to end playing career
Pinder plans to retire from professional baseball after playing for Triple-A Gwinnett in Saturday's game versus Durham, Robert Murray of FanSided.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Pinder will bring an end to an 11-year playing career in which he spent parts of seven seasons in the majors, all with Oakland. The utility man slashed .242/.294/.417 with 62 home runs and 197 RBI over 1,740 plate appearances at the major-league level. He most recently attended spring training with the Nationals after signing with the team on a minor-league deal over the winter, but he was released earlier this month. He then signed with Atlanta and slashed .333/.357/.593 over his first six games with Gwinnett, but since a promotion to the big leagues didn't look to be in the forecast anytime soon, the 31-year-old is choosing to step away from the game.

Pinder never had a set starting spot during his six seasons in Oakland, but the Athletics certainly made the most of his versatility in giving him starts at every position but catcher and pitcher. The 379 plate appearances he received in 2022 were a career-high, and Pinder reached double digits in home runs for the fourth time. Although he tailed off some in the department last season, Pinder has traditionally always hit the ball hard with a career 90.2 mph average exit velocity and 10.7 percent barrel rate, marks which are both well above average. Pinder picked a good landing spot over the winter when he inked a minor-league deal with Cincinnati. Not only do the Reds call Great American Ball Park home, they have very few lineup staples and some guys that are injury prone. New highs in plate appearances and home runs are certainly attainable.

Loses weight, takes reps at SS, CF
Pinder has lost 15 pounds this offseason and has been taking reps at shortstop and center field, Robert Murray of FanSided.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Pinder has played every position other than catcher in the big leagues, but playing time at short and center has been scarce, especially in recent years. Showing he can adequately handle those spots would certainly add to his appeal. Pinder, who turns 31 in March, had a .648 OPS with 12 homers for the Athletics in 2022. Murray lists the Reds, Tigers, Pirates, Red Sox, Marlins and Diamondbacks as possible fits for the utility player.
