Rest-of-Season Projections
Set to join Triple-A club
Sadler (shoulder) announced via his personal Twitter account that he will join Triple-A Tacoma on Tuesday for his season debut with the affiliate.
ANALYSIS
After re-signing with the Mariners on a minor-league deal in December, Sadler opened the season on Tacoma's IL while he continued his recovery from March 2022 shoulder surgery. He was cleared to begin a rehab assignment in the lower rungs of the minors following the All-Star break and now looks like he'll be activated from Tacoma's 60-day IL on Tuesday after he struck out six while allowing three earned runs in 3.1 innings over four appearances between High-A Everett and the rookie-level Arizona Complex League. Sadler is just two seasons removed from churning out a 0.67 ERA and 0.72 WHIP in 42 relief appearances with the Mariners, and if he can rediscover some semblance of his pre-injury form at Tacoma, he could be in the mix for a late-season return to the big leagues.

Sadler had perhaps one of the most underappreciated performances of the 2021 season, as he maintained a 0.67 ERA and 0.72 WHIP across 40.1 innings pitching out of the Mariners bullpen. Unfortunately, but as could be expected, it will be extremely difficult for him to replicate those efforts. While always proficient at limiting home runs, Sadler allowed only 0.2 HR/9 in 2021. Other areas that are likely to regress moving forward include a .188 BABIP and 91 LOB%. That isn't to say Sadler was solely the beneficiary of good luck. He greatly increased the usage of his cutter, which limited opposing hitters to a .225 xBA, .327 xSLG and .274 xWOBA and also rediscovered his control (6.9 BB%). Sadler appeared to be in line to compete for a setup role in Seattle's bullpen in 2022, but he'll have to wait another year before attempting to follow up his strong 2021 campaign since he underwent season-ending shoulder surgery in March.

Latest Fantasy Rumors
Earning hold opportunities
Sadler has been virtually unhittable for the last month-plus and should be in line for more high-leverage situations going forward.
ANALYSIS
The righty has logged 15 consecutive scoreless appearances dating back to July 27, a 14.2-inning span during which he's posted a 0.66 WHIP. Sadler pitched a scoreless inning against the Astros on Wednesday, lowering his season-long ERA to 0.99 and converting his ninth hold in as many opportunities. Diego Castillo (shoulder) is days from returning and will add to Seattle's selection of high-leverage options, though Sadler has pitched well enough to remain in that mix for the remainder of 2021.
