Sent to minors camp
CChicago White Sox
March 11, 2024
The White Sox reassigned Perez to minor-league camp Monday.
ANALYSIS
Though he was outrighted off the 40-man roster in January, Perez still received an invite to big-league camp as a non-roster invitee. Perez ultimately fell short in his battle for a spot on the White Sox's Opening Day squad, with all of Martin Maldonado, Max Stassi and Korey Lee clearly ahead of him in the pecking order at catcher.

Past Fantasy Outlooks
2024
2023
After making his MLB debut in 2022, Perez played in just 27 games for the White Sox in 2023 hitting .204/.264/.347 across 53 plate appearances. There's not much to get excited about here from a fantasy perspective as Perez's Triple-A slash line of .240/.295/.408 in 312 plate appearances doesn't bode for much upside at the dish. Perez will compete in Spring Training with new addition Max Stassi for the backup catching role behind Korey Lee in 2024.
Perez made his major-league debut in 2022 and went 4-for-18 with two doubles in seven contests. The 26-year-old is one of the White Sox's top prospects, but he'll likely be back at Triple-A Charlotte to start 2023 with Yasmani Grandal and Seby Zavala poised to work as Chicago's top catching options. Perez played in 109 games at Triple-A last season and posted a .766 OPS with 21 home runs and a 34:40 BB:K, and those contact skills are intriguing, especially for a catcher. Perez should receive a longer look in 2023 with injuries likely to hit the White Sox's backstops at some point, and a strong showing could keep him around the big club, especially given Grandal's career-worst 68 wRC+ last year.

Catching for Davis Martin
CChicago White Sox
August 24, 2022
White Sox manager Tony La Russa said that Perez will start when Davis Martin pitches, reports Daryl Van Schouwen of the Chicago Sun-Times.
ANALYSIS
Perez was promoted Sunday but has yet to make his big-league debut. Martin and Perez were teammates at Triple-A Charlotte and La Russa wishes to capitalize on their familiarity with one another. Chicago has not yet announced its starter for Saturday's contest against Arizona and Martin may get recalled to start that game. The 25-year-old Perez has a .257/.319/.446 line with 17 homers in 91 games in Charlotte this season.
