Rest-of-Season Projections
Dropped from 40-man roster
O'Grady cleared waivers and was outrighted to Triple-A El Paso on Friday.
ANALYSIS
O'Grady filled a minor role as a depth outfielder this season but didn't acquit himself well, hitting .157/.267/.333 in 61 plate appearances. Heading into his age-30 season, it's no surprise to see him fail to get claimed off waivers given that he's yet to find success at the major-league level.

2020
O'Grady earned his first promotion to the big leagues in 2019 after demolishing Triple-A pitching to the tune of a .280/.358/.550 line across 488 plate appearances. Since, he's accrued 53 major-league plate appearances and is hitting .213/.302/.447. While still capable of loud contact -- he's notched six extra-base hits in 53 plate appearances -- O'Grady's strikeout rate has spiked to 34% in his small sample at the major-league level. As a result, he'll almost certainly never replicate his minor-league numbers at the highest level of the game, but O'Grady has value to big-league clubs as he has proven capable defensively in both center and left field as well as first base. That versatility landed him a major-league deal with the Padres this offseason -- his third team in as many seasons. While not likely to gain a lot of playing time, O'Grady should have the chance to earn a bench role during spring training.

Latest Fantasy Rumors
Could fill multiple positions
O'Grady, who was acquired by the Rays from the Reds on Wednesday, is capable of playing first base and all three outfield spots, Juan Toribio of MLB.com reports.
ANALYSIS
O'Grady caught the Rays' eye after slashing .280/.359/.550 with a career-high 28 home runs at Triple-A Louisville last season. The 27-year-old gives Tampa a coveted left-handed power bat that can offer depth at multiple spots, as Toribio reports that O'Grady projects as a solid corner outfielder that has also put in considerable time in center field in addition to first base during a minor-league career that dates back to 2014. O'Grady's versatility naturally enhances his chances of making the roster and adding to a major-league resume that consists of a modest 28 games heading into 2020.
