Joins Cardinals in Triple-A Rule 5 draft
Wilson was selected by the Cardinals in the Triple-A phase of the Rule 5 draft Thursday.
ANALYSIS
Wilson spent the last two seasons with High-A Bakersfield in the Mariners' organization. In 2016, he slashed just .226/.338/.375 in 435 plate appearances spread across 104 games. He did hit 13 home runs and add 49 RBI, but he had significant issues with strikeouts, striking out in 36.1 percent of his plate appearances. He'll likely begin next season in the lower levels of the minors.

2015 Fantasy Outlook
At 6-foot-4, 250 pounds, Wilson is a five-tool prospect with good power who could be the right-fielder of the future in Seattle. A strained Achilles' tendon in June interrupted an excellent first full professional season last year at Low-A Clinton. It also likely prevented him from getting an expected promotion to High-A. That's where he is likely to start this season as he continues to develop his raw power (32 XBH at Low-A Clinton). The organization's 2013 second-round pick, Wilson, 23, is at least a couple years away.

"He's a guy we've been scouting since high school," said Mariners scouting director Tom McNamara. "He's a big guy. We talk about tools -- he's a five-tool guy, and we think his better days are ahead of him. He's got power. He came here to our pre-Draft camp, and it was pretty exciting, the show he put on."
