Rest-of-Season Projections
Dropped from 40-man roster
Burns was outrighted off the Dodgers' 40-man roster Friday, Eric Stephen of SBNation.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Burns got into a pair of NLCS games as a replacement for Justin Turner (hamstring), but he wasn't particularly high on the depth chart, appearing in just nine regular-season major-league games. He'll return to his role as organizational depth for now.

Recent RotoWire Articles Featuring Andy Burns See More
The Mets have really been hurt by injuries this season, but Jan Levine sees one of their regular contributors returning by the end of the month.
Erik Siegrist sees a lot of turmoil, and a lot of bidding opportunities, in AL bullpens this week as Wade Davis was just the first of three elite closers to break down heading into the All-Star break.
2017 Fantasy Outlook
Burns' 2016 season was a massive disappointment. Just a year removed from hitting .293/.351/.372 in 527 at-bats with Triple-A Buffalo, the infielder slashed .230/.285/.352 over 454 at-bats at the same level. In fairness, the utility man demonstrated good patience (3.69 pitches per at-bat) and suffered from a bit of bad luck (.267 BABIP) last season. He made his MLB debut in May, his first of three short stints with the Jays last season, and ultimately appeared in 10 games, going 0-for-6 with two strikeouts in limited action. The club has a logjam of infielders in the system, meaning Burns will continue having an uphill climb to find playing time. His latest campaign certainly doesn't help his chances in 2017, but the 26-year-old should get a fair shot to earn a backup role in spring training. A major strength for Burns is an ability to play every position on the diamond outside of the battery.
