Rest-of-Season Projections
Released by Twins
Carter was released by the Twins on Saturday, Rochester Redwings PR Coordinator Nate Rowan reports.
ANALYSIS
The former home-run champ hasn't done much of note this season, hitting .224/.317/.519 at the Triple-A level with the Twins and Angels. Still just 31, Carter could eventually find his way back to the big leagues, though he's unlikely to be a hot commodity having hit just .201/.284/.370 in 62 games for the Yankees last season in his last taste of major-league action.

Carter went from AL home run champion in 2016 to being designated for assignment by the Yankees last year and ending the season in the minor leagues with Oakland. He did do well for Oakland in the minors (123 wRC+), but he looked abysmal in his inconsistent playing time with the Yankees. If you have owned Carter for any amount of time in recent years, you are well aware of his long cold streaks around some red hot streaks of prodigious power. The free agent could get another chance to show off his power from the designated hitter role for an American League team, but that is realistically going to be a second division team with an opening at DH. It is tough to overlook how bad he was with the Yankees, but perhaps a change of scenery could bring him back to another 20-plus homer season.
