Evans had a pinch-hit home run in the 13th inning in his first at-bat with Triple-A Omaha on Saturday.
ANALYSIS
Evans was just called up from Double-A Northwest Arkansas and helped spark a five-run extra inning victory for his new club. However, with Jarrod Dyson returning to Triple-A on Sunday, Evans' time in Omaha could be short-lived.

If not for the ridiculous Gary Matthews Jr. contract, Evans might as well have spent the last two seasons as the Angels' fourth outfielder. He bounced back from an injury-plagued 2008 to once again tear up Salt Lake. A low contact rate limits his offensive potential, but there's no reason for him to not be on someone's bench in 2010. Good deep-league sleeper.
Evans only appeared in 46 games as a reserve outfielder with Triple-A last season. He didn’t do much at the plate but did post a healthy .345 OBP. Evans has been passed in the organizational depth chart by several other players and a move to a new team may be the best thing for his career.
Evans showed his potential last season, hitting .316 with 15 home runs, 75 RBI, and 24 steals with Triple-A Salt Lake. Evans has proven himself in the minors, but he needs to take more walks, cut down his strikeouts, and is a little too old to be a prospect at age 26. Evans’ skill set is similar to that of Reggie Willits and Nathan Haynes, but he does have a little more pop in his bat than the other two. There's a chance he could find his way onto the regular roster if he outplays his fellow outfielders in spring training, but even if he does make it, it will be difficult for him to have much fantasy impact in 2008.
It was quite a season, but when a 24-year-old does this without improving his contact rate or plate discipline, it looks more like a fluke than development. Evans' upside is fourth outfielder; he's not a fantasy factor in '07.
