Rest-of-Season Projections
Headed to Japan
Marrero signed a contract with the Orix Buffaloes of Nippon Professional Baseball in Japan, Jon Heyman of FanRagSports.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Marrero struggled during his time with the Giants, so rather than head to the minors to act as organizational depth, he'll head overseas to try to revive his career that way. The details of his contract are unknown at this time, but more likely than not, Marrero will try to return stateside in the next year or two.

A torn hamstring cost Marrero a good chunk of 2012, but worse for him was that it allowed Tyler Moore to pass him on the team's first-base depth chart. There does not appear to be any kind of future for Marrero in Washington, and given that he has never shown much power in the minors there may not be a future for him anywhere else either. His ceiling might be as a poor man's Gaby Sanchez, and that is really no kind of ceiling at all.
