Alfonzo recently reported to Triple-A Albuquerque, after missing spring training due to dengue fever and playing in Mexico once fully recovered, the Los Angeles Times reports.
ANALYSIS
Alfonzo, who last saw time in the majors with the Rockies in 2011, is a career .240/.271/.377 hitter with 17 home runs in 624 at-bats. The 34-year-old catcher will supply organizational depth and may garner a call-up in September when rosters expand.

Past Fantasy Outlooks
2010
2008
2007
Since a fluky rookie season with the Giants, Alfonzo has hit .196/.221/.280 in the majors, while batting .300 with good power at Triple-A. The Mariners picked him up as something of an emergency backup should Rob Johnson not be ready to start the season.
After returning from knee surgery, Alfonzo lost his job as backup catcher to journeyman Guillermo Rodriguez, thanks in large part to poor defensive play. A career .263/.298/.446 hitter, Alfonzo doesn't appear to be in San Francisco's plans for 2008, and he'll likely spend most of the season at Triple-A.
When Mike Matheny went down for the year with post-concussion syndrome, Alfonzo stepped in and hit surprisingly well, knocking out 12 homers in 286 at-bats. However, his poor plate discipline (74:9 K:BB) and .302 OBP suggest a regression is likely. With Bengie Molina now in the fold, Alfonzo is probably looking at 200-250 at-bats this season.
