PFlorida Marlins
November 29, 2011
The Marlins signed Ray to a minor league deal on Tuesday.
ANALYSIS
Ray last appeared in the major leagues with Toronto in 2010, and his poor performance between Triple-A (7.22 ERA at Las Vegas) and Double-A (6.27 ERA at New Hampshire) last year suggests he is highly unlikely to be an impact player in South Florida.

Past Fantasy Outlooks

2009
Ray has struggled to overcome some shoulder woes, and last year was no different (1.67 K/BB in 18 starts at Triple-A Las Vegas). He's a big kid (6-foot-5) but can't stay healthy and will need to show more at Triple-A before he warrants any additional consideration.
Ray got an early callup and made four starts with the Jays, posting a 1.192 WHIP in 24.1 innings. There's nothing in his minor league career to suggest this was anything other than a sample-size fluke. He landed on the DL after his four starts and never made it back on the mound thanks to a shoulder injury. Pass.
Ray finally reached Double-A New Hampshire, an ominous sign for a 24-year-old pitcher that came out of an established baseball program at Texas A&M. He's allowed more than a hit per inning in his minor league career, showing only moderate control and average strikeout totals. This isn't the pitching prospect you're looking for.
