Past Fantasy Outlooks

Budde was an organizational soldier for the Angels for the last six seasons, but the team decided to part ways with him given their impressive catching depth entering this season. Budde, who has played in just 29 major league games since making his debut in 2007, agreed to a minor league contract with the Blue Jays. He will likely open next season with Triple-A Las Vegas.
Budde struggled at the dish in 2008 with Triple-A Salt Lake, finishing the season with a .202 batting average and only two home runs. Budde hit much better in 2007, but it is evident that he likely won’t be more than an organizational soldier for the Angels. With Bobby Wilson ahead of him at Triple-A and Hank Conger on the way, Budde’s future with the Angels doesn’t appear bright.
Budde saw his first big league action last year, helping Jeff Mathis fill in for an injured Mike Napoli, but most of his action was at Triple-A Salt Lake. There, he posted the best average of his career last year, batting .289 in 50 minor league games, after failing to hit higher than .251 in any season prior to last year. Budde will be the first catcher called up if either Napoli or Mathis is injured, but his track record is a strong indication that he won't provide enough offense to warrant much fantasy consideration even if he sees action with the Angels.
