Rupe accepted an assignment to Triple-A on Thursday, MASN Sports reports.
ANALYSIS
Since he was dropped from the 40-man roster, it will be difficult for Rupe to find the road back to Baltimore. Meanwhile, Brian Matusz is getting ready to return soon and that fills another spot on the pitching staff.

Rupe spent the full year in the Texas bullpen, which should qualify him for a hazard pay bonus. He failed to distinguish himself from a typical long-reliever, and there's little reason to think he'll ever progress beyond that.
Rupe was limited to just seven starts before another round of elbow problems cut short his season. He's had control issues in the past when healthy, and there's little reason to think he'll be improved following another lost season.
Rupe was considered a favorite to break camp in the Texas rotation before an elbow injury sidelined him until late June and kept him in the minors for a month thereafter. His poor control will prevent him from being anything more than a stopgap measure at the back of the rotation at best, however.
Rupe posted pretty pedestrian numbers in the minors before a September call-up. His 62/38 K/BB ratio at Triple-A isn't good enough for sustained success in the majors, and it's been a problem in the past as well.
Rupe progressed as high as Double-A Frisco in 2004, which is worthy enough for a just-turned 22-year-old. His 16/16 K/BB ratio in 37 IP at Double-A will need to improve drastically before he gets to advance. He figures to start the year in Frisco. Given his youth, he has time to improve.
Rupe, the 2002 third round pick of the White Sox acquired for Carl Everett, has quality stuff in a low-to-mid 90s fastball with movement and great sink, and a nasty slider. His other two pitches, a decent curve and changeup, have yet to reach the same level, so he doesn’t project as an ace. As a college pitcher, he has little time to further those two pitches, but he’s still seen as middle-starter with a live enough arm to hope for better.
