Quintanilla hit .207 with no real power last season for the Mets. His expected role with Colorado amounts to being the backup to Troy Tulowitzki's backup, meaning he'll likely spend most of his time in the minors.

Quintanilla signed a minor league deal with the Mets last January, and after a big May, he was called up at the end of the month to take the roster spot of Ruben Tejada, who landed on the disabled list with a quad injury. Tejada remained in the minors much of the rest of the year, giving Quintanilla ample playing time. Quintanilla showed he is a nice stopgap and backup, but he is no longer suited to full-time play as evidenced by his .222/.306/.283 line in 359 at-bats.
Quintanilla started the 2012 season as a backup for the Mets and was traded to the Orioles when the Mets needed to create roster space. With the Orioles, Quintanilla lasted nearly a month as the everyday starter before a prolonged slump caused him to fall out of favor. Quintanilla did not record a hit after August 14 and was left off the playoff roster. With six career home runs three stolen bases in 691 at-bats, it is no surprise that Quintanilla is billed as a defensive-minded player. He returned to the Mets on a minor league deal, where he will have a chance of being a utility infielder.
Quintanilla's a data point in the argument that some players can hit at Triple-A (.305/.372/.437) but not the majors (.226/.278/.301). He doesn't have enough power or speed to be on the Rockies' roster, much less yours.
Quintanilla is a light-hitting, slick-fielding infielder who can play shortstop and second base. He was shuffled between the majors and Triple-A in 2007 but never got consistent playing time with the Rockies. With Kaz Matsui gone he will compete with Jayson Nix and Clint Barmes for the starting second base job. He is a better fielder than both players but his bat may limit his playing time.
Quintanilla received a cup of coffee with the Rockies for the second straight season, but this second go-around didn't go quite as well as the first, when he batted .346 in 52 at-bats in 2005. He's an excellent defender at both second base and shortstop, a quality that should ensure he at least has a long career as a bench player. But Quintanilla hasn't shown enough with the bat to think he'll be anything more. He'll compete for a utility role this spring.
Quintanilla was acquired from Oakland during the season and lined up at shortstop to fill in for Clint Barmes. He's a versatile middle infielder who is a wizard with the glove, but batted just .219/.270/.242 in his first stint at the major league level. He'll compete in spring training for the Rockies utility role in 2006.
