Debuts at Double-A
Nolasco (undisclosed) was activated from Double-A Jackson's 7-day injured list Sunday and debuted for the affiliate in its 14-12 win over Birmingham. He covered four innings and gave up two runs on five hits and two walks while striking out four.
ANALYSIS
After signing a minor-league deal with the Diamondbacks in February, Nolasco stuck around at extended spring training for a few months due to the unspecified injury before he was finally cleared to report to the Double-A club. Though he's made 312 starts at the big-league level, Nolasco was hit hard during his last stint in the majors in 2017 with the Angels and probably won't be viewed as much more than an emergency rotation option for Arizona.

Nolasco made 33 starts for the Angels last year, putting forth mediocre production in every relevant statistical category. He was worth 0.7 wins, according to FanGraphs, due to the bulk innings he chewed up, but with a 4.79 xFIP, 1.45 WHIP and middling strikeout rate (18.2 percent), there's not much to see here for fantasy purposes. The current offseason is showing that some teams are looking for a starter to either eat innings or go two times through the order and hand things off to the bullpen. Nolasco is an oddball because 30 of the 61 homers he has allowed over the past two seasons have come the first time through the order. He will likely land such a big-league commitment, but he would only appeal in very deep mixers and only leagues as a strikeout/wins compiler.
