Cash had his most at-bats (142) since the 2004 season, primarily as Tim Wakefield's personal catcher. He's much more noted for his glove and game-calling skills than his bat. Even with Boston's catching situation up in the air, Cash was not tendered a contract by the Red Sox. He ended up getting a minor league deal with the Yankees to provide organizational depth in December.
He's managed just 20 extra-base hits, 16 walks and 98 strikeouts in 332 career big league at bats. That's what you call a quadruple-A catcher.
That his poor 2004 was a marked improvement from 2003 is all you need to know.
There continue to be serious doubts if Cash will ever hit well enough in the majors to be anything more than a defensive specialist behind the plate. He'll do more harm than good to your fantasy team.
Defense is ready for the big leagues, and he should be called up near mid-season according to Toronto's latest plans. If he can improve a bit at the plate, cutting on the strikeouts and mixing in a few more singles, he could eventually be a .260/20 HR type with good defense. As it stands now, he'd be overmatched against big league pitching.
