Rest-of-Season Projections
Updating a previous report, the Rockies released Cook from his minor league contract.
ANALYSIS
With the news that Cook would miss the rest of the season with a elbow injury, his release is hardly a surprising development. The Rockies will look to plug his spot in the rotation at Triple-A Colorado Springs, with recent acquisition Armando Galarraga likely a top option.

Coming off shoulder problems in 2011, Cook was held back early in spring training and was behind other potential starters. He eventually was placed at Triple-A Pawtucket, where his sinker-balling ways baffled hitters. With the opt-out clause in his minor league approaching, the Red Sox promoted him to Boston, where he filled in for injured starters and worked as a sixth starter at times. There is no mystery to the 11-year veteran - he gets by on his sinker and pitches to contact. At times it was good enough; other times it was not. Cook will compete with John Lannan and Tyler Cloyd for the fifth starter role in Philadelphia after signing a minor league deal.
