Dotel provided the Tigers with the middle-relief depth they coveted during his first season in Motown, finishing 5-3 with a 3.57 ERA, 1.07 WHIP and 62:12 K:BB ratio in 57 appearances. Detroit was pleased enough to exercise Dotel's $3.5 million option, which will keep him in their bullpen for the 2013 season. The 39-year-old reliever figures to play another mid-to-late inning role for Detroit, but he's one of a handful of names that could factor into the mix at closer if a veteran option is not brought in to do the job. That said, Dotel has not been asked to close games since 2010, and his struggles against left-handed hitters (.288/.360/.371) suggest he is better suited to work in a situational role earlier in games.
