Rest-of-Season Projections
Byrdak officially became a free agent Thursday morning, after the World Series ended the previous evening, ESPN New York reports.
ANALYSIS
Byrdak made a remarkable return to the majors in September, after suffering a shoulder injury in August of 2012. He did not pitch particularly well after the promotion, but because he is left-handed, look for there to be decent interest in him in free agency.

Byrdak, used as a LOOGY by the Mets, was death on lefties as they hit just .154/.260/.277 against him in 65 at-bats. Byrdak's heavy usage likely contributed to the torn anterior capsule in his pitching shoulder, which was surgically repaired in September. He is expected to make a full recovery but may not be ready until the latter part of 2013. Byrdak, who is the third member of the Mets - joining Johan Santana and Chris Young - to have the surgery, each of whom have had varying levels of success following their respective operations, signed a minor league deal with the squad.
