Rest-of-Season Projections
Retires at age 26
Glover (elbow) announced his retirement from baseball on his personal Twitter page Monday.
ANALYSIS
The righty had plenty of talent in his arm, but he'll call it a career at age 26 after injuries got the best of him. He didn't throw a pitch at any level in 2019 and threw a combined 48.1 innings across all levels in the two preceding seasons. He'll wind up a story of unfulfilled potential, having saved nine games in just 55.1 career big-league innings while posting a 4.55 ERA.

A shoulder injury prevented Glover from taking a real step forward last season, as he didn't make it back to the big leagues until August and was only able to throw 16.1 innings. His 3.31 ERA was the best mark of his career, though it's hard to say he deserved it, as it came with an ugly 9:10 K:BB. Walks had never been an issue for him in the past, so it's possible his control issues last season were a small-sample fluke or the lingering effects of the shoulder issue. He's never been able to consistently strike out big-league hitters, posting a mediocre 18.0% strikeout rate through 55.1 career innings. The lack of whiffs is a surprise given his upper-90s fastball and upper-80s slider, both of which have impressed evaluators. If he can get the most out of his stuff, he's a future high-leverage reliever, but a bet on him for saves this season seems ill advised given his track record and the names ahead of him.
