Past Fantasy Outlooks
2016
2015
A ninth-round pick of the Astros in 2008, Cruz appeared in 28 games (19 starts) for Triple-A Fresno last season, going 7-5 with a 4.27 ERA, 1.47 WHIP, and a 93:53 K:BB ratio over 116 innings for the Grizzlies. The 25-year-old southpaw battled command issues and had trouble keeping the ball inside the park (18 home runs allowed), so he's unlikely to compete for an Opening Day roster spot with the Astros to open 2016. Expect a return to Triple-A, this time to Iowa after the Cubs signed Cruz to a minor league deal in December.
Cruz, a ninth-round pick of the Astros in 2008, appeared in 26 games (22 starts) between Double-A Corpus Christi and Triple-A Oklahoma City last season, going 8-8 with a 3.68 ERA, 1.24 WHIP and 118:38 K:BB over 124.2 innings. The 24-year-old left-hander doesn't walk too many batters and has struck out nearly a batter per inning since 2011. Cruz only made five starts in Triple-A last season, however, so that's likely where he will begin to open the 2015 campaign.
