Rest-of-Season Projections
Gomez has reached an agreement with the Hanshin Tigers to play in Japan in 2014, the Kyodo news service reports.
ANALYSIS
Gomez hit .249/.322/.521 with 29 home runs for Triple-A Buffalo last year in Toronto's system and then was claimed off waivers by Washington in September. He's just 28 years old, so it's possible he could raise his profile in Japan and return to MLB.

2013 Fantasy Outlook
At one point during the offseason, Gomez was Boston's starting first baseman. Most likely, he fits as a backup if he sticks, but the Red Sox could probably find a cheap fill-in who has more experience and is better defensively than Gomez. He has been an average contact guy in the minors who strikes out a lot, but also hits for power. The Red Sox addressed a need for right-handed power, hence the signing of Jonny Gomes, so there is less need for Gomez's bat.
