Past Fantasy Outlooks
2013
2012
Eppley served largely as a righty specialist in 2012, and performed decently in the role, putting up a 3.33 ERA in 46 innings. While Eppley could fulfill a similar function in 2013, he doesn't have the stuff to merit higher-leverage innings, and carried a mediocre 6.3 K/9 during his time with the Yankees last season. Look for him to be used in middle relief with most of his value coming from the holds category.
Eppley served as the closer at Triple-A Round Rock sandwiched around a brief stint with Texas. His numbers as the closer at Round Rock were hardly awe-inspiring: 51 hits and 34 walks in 55.1 innings. He does an excellent job keeping the ball on the ground, routinely getting three groundballs for every flyball, but he's now allowed 83 hits and 47 walks in 84 innings over the past two seasons at the Triple-A level. That's simply too many runners allowed to project as anything beyond a mediocre reliever in the majors.
