Signs with Philadelphia
Chambers signed a minor-league contract with the Phillies last week, Matt Eddy of Baseball America reports.
ANALYSIS
Chambers spent the 2017 campaign in independent ball, batting .293 across stints with two clubs in the Can-Am League. The 31-year-old outfielder hasn't seen any time in the majors since 2013 and will likely function as organizational depth for the Phillies.

Now 26, Chambers looks like he's going to top out as a fifth outfielder type in the majors. Though he's played 59 games with the Cardinals in the last few years, most of that time has been spent with Triple-A Memphis, where he's shown off a little speed and the utility to draw a walk. Otherwise, he doesn't have much to write home about and the Cards seem unlikely to provide him more than a part-time opportunity.
