Rest-of-Season Projections
Bound for KBO
Barnes agreed Monday with the Hanwha Eagles of the Korea Baseball Organization on a one-year, $200,000 contract, Jee-ho Yoo of Yonhap News Agency reports.
ANALYSIS
Barnes had previously joined the Reds on a minor-league pact in February and was set to open the season at Double-A Chattanooga before the COVID-19 pandemic resulted in affiliated ball being suspended indefinitely. With the increasing unlikelihood that a minor-league season will be played in 2020, the Reds were willing to let Barnes pursue work elsewhere, and the 34-year-old ultimately found a lucrative opportunity overseas. Expect Cincinnati to formally waive its rights to Barnes in the coming days in order to clear the way for him to join Hanwha, where he'll be replacing another American outfielder in Jared Hoying, who was recently cut by the team.

2013
Barnes began the year with Triple-A Albuquerque despite spending two consecutive years in the majors. He didn't help his case to be on the parent club, as he hit a horrid .205 in 143 plate appearances. Despite the rough start, he was called up in late May, and was allotted plenty of playing time throughout the year due to the injury troubles of Corey Dickerson. He produced better than in Triple-A, posting a .251/.314/.341 slash line in 281 plate appearances, but struggled toward the end of the season. Barnes should be in line to be the fourth outfielder for the Rockies in 2016, but he'll have to produce more at the plate (especially away from the hitter-friendly Coors Field) if he wants to see more consistent playing time.
