ANALYSIS
Bridwell made 12 starts for Triple-A Salt Lake in 2019, recording a 8.12 ERA, 1.95 WHIP and a 18.4 strikeout percentage. The 28-year-old's most productive season came in 2017 with the Angels, where he posted a 3.64 ERA and 1.20 WHIP across 20 starts. Bridwell will look to make a positive first impression on the Minnesota coaching staff during camp, but he will likely return to the minors following spring training.

Things could not have gone worse for Bridwell last season. After getting lit up in his first start, Bridwell was sent to Triple-A Salt Lake where he continued to struggle before being diagnosed with elbow inflammation in late April. He returned to the Bees, working as a starter until late July when he had arthroscopic surgery to remove loose bodies from his right elbow with a stem-cell treatment to facilitate healing. Bridwell was called up to the majors in mid-September, finishing the season as a mop-up reliever. It's unclear how much of his 17.55 ERA with the Angels and 8.68 mark on the farm were affected by his elbow woes, but the 3.64 ERA he posted in 2017 was despite a weak strikeout rate and penchant for giving up the long ball. Even a healthy Bridwell has a lot of work to do if he wants to be a viable MLB starter.
