Rest-of-Season Projections
Finds work in indy ranks
Arcia signed a contract Wednesday with the Cleburne Railroaders of the independent American Association.
ANALYSIS
Arcia appeared in 288 MLB games with the Twins, Rays, Marlins and Padres from 2013 through 2016, but he's since bounced around between a number of foreign and independent clubs. The 30-year-old will likely first need to parlay a strong showing with Cleburne into a minor-league contract with an MLB organization before a return to the big leagues becomes a realistic possibility.

A crowded outfield in Minnesota and the lack of progress in his plate discipline led the Twins to designate Arcia for assignment in June, which resulted in a trade to Tampa Bay and a brief stint in Miami before he landed in San Diego. Prior to his departure from the Twins, Arcia was whiffing at a career-high 40.4 percent rate through 32 games, a far cry from the improvement he had shown in Minnesota (23.1%) and at Rochester (26.4%) in 2015. Even with the improvement he showed in Tampa Bay and San Diego (31.1 percent K%), Arcia finished with a career-worst 36.0 percent strikeout rate for the season. He joined Arizona on a minor league deal this winter, but as a subpar defender, Arcia's ideally suited for the American League. It remains to be seen if he is capable of consistently providing run production in more than a platoon role as his .771 career OPS against righties has come with a 31.5 percent strikeout rate.
