2011 Fantasy Outlook
Anderson was one of the top players in Cuba (including playing in the 2009 World Baseball Classic) before he defected in 2009. He signed with Tampa Bay in April last year and then made three stops in the minors before ending up at Triple-A Durham. He posted a 27:54 BB:K ratio over the three levels and hit over .300 at both Double-A and Triple-A. Anderson projects to hit more for average than power, and he will have the opportunity to secure playing time during spring training. The Rays may decide between him and journeyman Dan Johnson to take over first base with Carlos Pena now with the Cubs. If he secures regular playing time, Anderson will make for an interesting sleeper even at age 29 this season given his international experience.
