Carreno was assigned by the Mets to their minor league camp Tuesday, ESPN New York reports.
ANALYSIS
Carreno had a decent camp, but was caught in a numbers game in the bullpen. If he pitches well at Triple-A Las Vegas, he could receive an in-season call-up.

Carreno was a bit of a surprise starter for Toronto early in the season, although it only lasted one game before he was sent to the bullpen and ultimately demoted back to Triple-A. While Carreno has posted good strikeout numbers over his career, he has struggled with walks as a professional. The Blue Jays designated him for assignment in November and his skill set will likely lead him to an organizational depth role at Triple-A.
The Blue Jays have taken their time with Carreno after signing him as a 19-year-old. He spent last year as a 24-year-old at Double-A New Hampshire and flashed a nice strikeout rate (10.2 K/9IP) but struggled with his control (4.5 BB/9IP) against the advanced competition. He still managed a 1.248 WHIP despite the control issues and skipped Triple-A before getting called up to the Jays in August. He has low-90s velocity and decent secondary offerings with a slider and changeup but his future is likely in a relief role. Look for him to start the season in Triple-A Las Vegas.
