Zimmerman's elbow problems never cleared up to the point where he was able to pitch in the majors last season. Further tests in September didn't reveal anything unexpected, so he'll find himself in a similar situation in March. He's due to make over $3 million this year, so there might be some organizational pressure to get him back on the mound closing games.

Spring training “elbow soreness” resulted in a few aborted rehab assignments and eventually led to Tommy John surgery in late July. Recovery time can vary anywhere from 10 to 18 months, so there's no telling when he might return until he starts throwing a baseball again.
