Kenny Lofton

Lofton turns 40 in 2007, but his 129 games played last year were his most since 2001. Defensively, he's no longer an adequate center fielder, but at the plate, it's hard to argue with a .360 OBP and 32 steals (his most since 2000). Lofton signed with the Rangers in December and should be a solid one-category (SB) fantasy performer in the 120 or so games he plays.

Lofton flashed some of his old skill to help spark the top of the Phillies lineup last year. It's tempting to say the season was his last good one, but Lofton has proved the doubters wrong before. He'll start in center field after siging with the Dodgers in the offseason.

Lofton didn't fit in too well with the Yankees in 2004 and was traded to Philly in the offseason, where he may again share time in center field. His 51 runs in 276 AB were solid, but the days of Lofton as a big stolen-base threat are over. He's not much more than a slap hitter at this point.

Lofton will patrol center field for the Yankees, but how many starts a week he'll get remains a question. He is a good bet to notch another 25 steals if he can stay reasonably healthy which at age 37 could be a challenge. While Lofton hasn't played in more than 140 games since 1998, he hasn't played in fewer than 120, either.

Lofton signed with the Pirates in March, 2003 and will play center field and bat leadoff for the team. His numbers with the Giants dipped late last season, finishing at .261-11-51 with 29 steals, and he often looked to be a step late when playing center field in the postseason. However, he underwent surgery in November to repair a hernia that had been bothering him since mid-August, which explains a lot about his late-season performance. He turns 36 in May, so it would be tough to expect much more from Lofton in 2003. Still, he'll steal some bases and makes a nice late-round grab.
