Rest-of-Season Projections
Dealt to St. Louis
The Blue Jays traded Woodman to the Cardinals on Friday in exchange for shortstop Aledmys Diaz, Shi Davidi of Sportsnet.ca reports.
ANALYSIS
The 2016 second-round pick posted middling numbers at Low-A Lansing in his second professional season. He walked at a decent clip (9.7 percent), but also struck out 37.9 percent of the time. Woodman will need to show significant improvement in that regard if he's to move up the ladder in the Cardinals' organization.

2017 Fantasy Outlook
Woodman was seen as a high-floor/low-ceiling center field prospect when the Jays selected him with the 57th overall pick last June. However, his performance in the Northwest and Midwest leagues paints a different picture. He demonstrated an intriguing power/speed combination and made a lot of hard contact, but he also struck out over 31 percent of the time, despite being older than most legitimate prospects at each level. His 34 walks in 271 plate appearances would be much more impressive if he was showing that patience against more advanced pitching. Additionally, it is hard to give him too much credit for stealing 10 bases on 13 attempts against low level batteries when most reports suggested he was just an average runner coming out of Ole Miss. Throw in the fact that he posted batting averages on balls in play of .407 and .667 at Vancouver and Lansing, respectively, and it is not even clear that he will be able to maintain solid batting averages as he moves up the organizational ladder.
