Signs with Atlantic League team
Brito signed a contract Thursday with the Charleston Dirty Birds of the independent Atlantic League, Matt Gelb of The Athletic reports.
ANALYSIS
Brito is officially back in pro ball less than two years after suffering an on-field brain hemorrhage while playing in a game for the Triple-A affiliate of the Phillies on July 31, 2021. He is only 25 years old and might eventually get another shot with a major-league organization, but for now he'll play in independent ball.

2017 Fantasy Outlook
The Phillies signed Brito out of Venezuela in 2014. He made his state-side debut last season in the Gulf Coast League where he hit .284/.355/.421 with two homers in 190 at-bats. He has a solid approach at the plate with 21 walks to 27 strikeouts in 215 plate appearances and is a solid fielder at second base. It remains to be seen if he will be able to add more power to his game as he matures physically. The Phillies could send him to Low-A Lakewood to start next season rather than keeping him back in extended spring training at the start of the year.
