The Twins released Melotakis from Triple-A Rochester on Friday, Brandon Warne of The Athletic Minnesota reports.
ANALYSIS
Melotakis was selected in the second round back in 2012, and he had Tommy John surgery less than two years later. Injuries have plagued the 26-year-old, but his fastball hums in the mid-90s and he pitched to a 3.07 ERA in 14.2 innings this season at Triple-A. As a left-handed relief pitcher with decent numbers and decent pedigree, Melotakis' pro career may not be done.

Bernie On The Scene: A Look At Left-Handed Pitching Prospects
June 5, 2013
Along with an examination of pitching in general, RotoWire's Man on the Scene Bernie Pleskoff breaks down the current crop of left-handed pitching prospects.
Past Fantasy Outlooks
2017
2013
Melotakis had a strong season in his first action since Tommy John surgery at the end of 2014. He had an impressive 2.92 ERA and an 11.4 K/9 at Double-A Chattanooga. With a fastball in the 94 to 96 mph range, the 2012 second-round draft pick has a shot to reach the major league bullpen in 2017.
Melotakis, a 2012 second-round draft pick from Northwestern State University, had an impressive professional debut with a 1.88 ERA and 34:6 K:BB in 24 innings between rookie ball and Low-A. Melotakis has good velocity with a fastball in the 94-96 mph range. He alternated between the bullpen and rotation in college, but the Twins say they will develop him as a starter. He could quickly become one of Minnesota's top pitching prospects with a strong first full pro season.
