De Los Santos, who will be known as "Miguel Yan" moving forward, was released by the Brewers on Friday.
ANALYSIS
Shoulder and visa issues have prevented De Los Santos from pitching at any level since 2012, and he's posted a 6.13 ERA in 86.2 innings at Double-A. The lefty did have a couple decent years at the lower levels earlier in his career, but he's now 26 and the shoulder will likely scare many teams off.

Once a promising prospect known by the surname “De Los Santos,” Yan has not pitched since 2012 due to a shoulder injury and his inability to secure a work visa due to identity issues. Though his legal situation was ironed out during the offseason, the Brewers decided to release him even though he never pitched for the team after being claimed off waivers in 2012. Yan has averaged a preposterous 13.6 K/9 as a minor leaguer, but given his two-year break, it remains to be seen what his next step will be.
De Los Santos pitched well as a starter in the lower minor league ranks for the Rangers, but he struggled at the Double-A level each of the last two seasons and the club finally placed him on waivers after trying him as a reliever. The Brewers snapped him up, largely due to the 504 strikeouts De Los Santos has racked up over 332.2 career minor league innings. De Los Santos should be considered a reliever at this point, but he possesses a great changeup that helps him get the number of strikeouts he does. He is still just 23, so there is time for him to develop into a late-inning reliever if he can harness his stuff better.
De Los Santos struggled at Double-A Frisco to start the season, skipping High-A altogether after a 2010 season where he fanned 112 batters in 70.1 innings at two lower levels. While he managed 38 strikeouts in 28 innings at Double-A, they were accompanied by 17 walks and 27 hits and he was quickly sent down to High-A Myrtle Beach. His numbers there were much better, including 97 strikeouts against just 28 walks in 63.2 innings. His Arizona Fall League campaign showed some promise as well: 40 strikeout and three homers allowed over 30.1 innings in an offense-fueled environment, but also contained 15 walks. He faces the same control problems many hard-throwers at the lower levels do, and how he's able to pitch at Frisco in 2012 will go a long way in determining if Texas has anything to get excited about here. Continued struggles at Double-A would likely result in a shift to the bullpen, given his strikeout potential.
